A roadmap for the transition to digital
The push towards online and digital have become both objectives and challenges for the world of maritime transport and at Smart’N’Go, we are playing our role in supporting and enabling this process to happen. With our showcase Manta solution, we have developed a proven product totally aimed at the future face of maritime transport. More than just an optimization solution, Manta’s mission is to make maritime routing more “SMART”:
- More innovating: Manta is at the very forefront of data processing tools for the speedy delivery of maritime routing. Thanks to our key partnerships and supported by the latest developments in research, we are able to reposition innovation and Artificial Intelligence at the heart of our clients’ working practices. We have transformed innovation from being a complex hurdle into a manageable know-how that is adapted to meeting a new landscape of technical and environmental challenges.
- Simpler user interface: Manta guides, advises and supports merchant navy officers in their daily tasks. At Smart’N’Go, every solution is developed with the utmost respect for the complicated set of constraints that their work entails. We are not in the business of imposing a plan of action, but rather to suggest and lead towards a change that ensures a successful long-term collaboration and that values the unique know-how of vessel captains.
- More efficient: Manta is a solid, robust solution that encapsulates the core values that guide how on a daily basis we work at Smart’N’Go. We maintain close contact with our clients and always keep abreast of sector trends and developments to best ensure the ongoing improvement of our solutions.

FAQ
Does it need be installed onboard a vessel? What maintenance will it require?
Our Ship Integration Team (SIT) will carry out a client digitization assessment and vessel study in order to integrate the Manta solution. No equipment nor any onboard sensors will be required and no special software needs to be installed on the bridge. Communication of routes happens via a web interface.
What type of vessels are suited for the Manta solution?
Manta can be used for cargo vessels, container ships, oil tankers, bulk carriers and Roll-on/roll-off ships.
What distinctions are made between different types of vessels?
All studies and assessments are carried out on the basis that every vessel is unique.
Given that oceano-meteorological forecasts are only reliable for up to 5 days, how can any route that is generated be optimal for a journey that takes longer than 5 days?
Routes are generated prior to a vessel’s departure, then updated twice daily over the entire duration of a journey.
Does the solution work as well over long distances as over short ones (cabotage)?
The Manta solution can be used in both cases, even if it will be more effective over long distances. Cabotage involves a range of constraints.
On what basis can you affirm that your solution will generate a 5% saving in fuel spend? Isn’t 5% rather low?
There are two points to take into account:
- A 5% saving in fuel spend is the minimum we guarantee. In fact, we anticipate much higher savings.
- Given the large volumes of fuel used by vessels, a 5% saving will in itself generate significant gains for transporters.
Why do you maintain so many partnerships?
Our goals are ongoing improvements of our solutions and ever better performance and customer satisfaction.
